FDM or SLA — which one do you need?

FDM-printed threaded flange

FDM — Fused Deposition Modelling

Thermoplastic filament is melted and deposited layer by layer. FDM is fast and cost-effective, and produces durable parts for testing, product development, tooling and end use.

Best for: functional prototypes, enclosures, brackets, jigs and fixtures, low-volume parts.

MaterialsPLA, PETG, ABS, ASA
Layer height0.1 / 0.15 / 0.2 / 0.25 mm
Max. build size300 × 300 × 250 mm
Infill0–100% (strength vs. weight)
ColoursBlack, white, grey, red, yellow, green, blue, teal, orange, brown

SLA — Stereolithography

A precision laser cures liquid photopolymer resin layer by layer. SLA produces highly accurate parts with intricate geometry and smooth, presentation-ready surfaces.

Best for: high-detail prototypes, small precise components, visual and presentation models.

FAQ

3D printing FAQ

How does the instant quote work?

Upload your 3D model to our quoting system, choose the technology, layer height, material and colour, and you’ll see an estimated price straight away. Our team then checks the model and sends a confirmed quote with lead time.

Which file formats are supported?

STL, 3MF and OBJ mesh files as well as STEP and IGES CAD files. Make sure the model is a closed, watertight solid and in the right units (mm or inch).

What is the largest part you can print?

Up to 300 × 300 × 250 mm on FDM and 89 × 140 × 160 mm on SLA. Larger parts can often be split and assembled — ask us.

Which FDM material should I choose?

PLA for quick visual prototypes, PETG for tough general-purpose parts, ABS for higher temperature resistance and post-processing, and ASA for outdoor parts that need UV resistance.

Do you also print metal parts?

Our in-house 3D printing covers plastics (FDM) and resin (SLA). For metal parts we recommend CNC machining, which gives excellent accuracy and material properties.
